Court slams Kerala over lack of clarity on funds available with disaster relief force
India TodayThe Kerala High Court on Friday came down heavily on the state government over a lack of clarity on funds available to the State Disaster Response Fund. While hearing a petition linked to the prevention and management of natural disasters, the court also asked several queries, including how much funds were required for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad and the amount of financial assistance to be provided by the Centre, to which it wanted answers. The strong observation by the Kerala High Court came after the government failed to furnish details about the availability and utilization of funds in the SDRF. During the hearing, the Kerala government's advocate informed the court that even without any natural calamity, around 700 crore are required each year in the SDRF to meet other prior commitments.
