Cyclone Mocha: IMD warns fishermen against venturing into sea
Live MintNew Delhi: Indian Meteorological Department has advised fishermen, ships and trawlers to not venture into central Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea till Sunday given that cyclone Mocha is expected to make landfall. Mocha, categorised as a very severe cyclonic storm, is likely to intensify further and make landfall between Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh and Myanmar around noon on Sunday, with maximum sustained wind speed of 150-160 kmph gusting to 175 kmph, the IMD said. The name Mocha, pronounced Mokha, was proposed by Yemen, after the Red Sea port city Mokha, which introduced coffee to the world 500 years ago. IMD expects heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya between Sunday and Tuesday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from Friday to Tuesday.
