TNERC expresses concern over State power utility going ahead with tender process
The HinduTamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has expressed concern over the State’s power utility going ahead with the tender process to procure short term power for summer period, while its approval is pending. Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited sought nod for procurement of 2,750 MW of round the clock power and 5,775 MW of peak hour power from February to May 2025. It said the State’s power demand is to increase 6% in the summer months of 2025, over the previous year’s all time high peak power demand of 20,830 MW reached on May 2, 2024 and the record high daily consumption of 454.320 million units on April 30, 2024. TNERC noted that TNPDCL, consequent to the filing petition, went ahead with tender process and the competitive bidding was already over and presented a fait accompli.
