Orange alert issued in north Bengal, heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted
India TodayThe Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in North Bengal. This, combined with strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, will result in heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning activity in the districts of North Bengal during the specified period. The Met Department has issued an orange warning for specific dates in North Bengal: On July 2 and 3, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong districts. From July 5 to 7, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling districts, with heavy rain predicted in the North Dinajpur district. The possible impacts of the heavy rainfall in North Bengal include landslides in hilly areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, increased water levels in rivers such as Teesta, Jaldhaka, Sankosh, and Torsa, reduced visibility due to rainfall, damage to horticulture and standing crops, and the potential inundation of low-lying municipal areas.
