Twice-jailed Portuguese man with catalogue of dangerous driving offences cannot be deported because his two-year-old might be autistic, judge rules

A Portuguese criminal whose 'breathtakingly' dangerous driving had seen him locked up in Britain twice has won his case not to be deported because his child has developmental issues. Mauro Rodrigues, who came to the UK when he was one, was ordered to be removed by the Home Office after he racked up a catalogue of convictions for driving offences Earlier this week, an Albanian migrant avoided deportation after claiming his son did not like foreign chicken nuggets, while a Pakistani paedophile who messaged 'barely pubescent girls' won the right to stay in the UK to protect him from his family's disapproval of his actions back home. Sending Rodrigues back to his home country would 'deprive' the child of his care and cause the toddler to suffer 'emotional harm', the court found. In November 2024, Rodrigues was convicted at Willesden Magistrates' Court for driving while disqualified for an incident that month and was jailed for nine weeks and banned for 12 months The hearing was told Rodrigues came to England aged one in 2005 with his mother Ms Guita, having been granted leave to remain. Judge Sternberg said due to the child's best interests, Rodrigues must remain in the UK.
