Bombay High Court denies bail to man accused of raping minor granddaughter
India TodayThe Bombay High Court has refused to grant bail to a watchman of a Mumbai housing society accused of sexually assaulting his step-granddaughter. Additional Public Prosecutor Mayur Sonavane opposed the bail plea while submitting that the nature of the offence is serious and the accused by virtue of being related to the victim through her grandmother may tamper with the evidence or influence witnesses of the incident and hence should not be set at liberty as the act is against a minor girl child aged 5 years old. Justice Milind Jadhav after hearing all the arguments noted that the victim is undergoing psychiatric counselling due to the emotional impact of the incident. The allegations against the Applicant are extremely serious and the possibility of him pressuring the victim’s grandmother who is his wife cannot be ruled out considering the gravity of the offence and the proximity of the relationship between the accused and with grandmother of the victim.
