Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman to be released tomorrow, says Imran Khan; pilot was captured on Wednesday
The Indian Air Force pilot was confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs as having been locked in aerial engagement with an aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force that violated Indian airspace over Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. On Thursday afternoon, Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan announced that captured Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman will be released on Friday. In a strongly-worded statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that it objects to Pakistan’s “vulgar display of an injured personnel of the Indian Air Force”.
