Ryan Neal isn’t Jamal Adams, but the Seahawks are confident in the versatile defender

New York Times

Jamal Adams was a key piece of Seattle’s defense, so losing the Pro Bowl strong safety to a season-ending shoulder injury is a big blow to a unit that has its flaws but enters Week 14 with the sixth-best scoring defense in the league. “We’ve turned around our third-down numbers and that was basically when it was applied,” Carroll said of the dime package with Neal. “It won’t change us at all in what we are trying to do.” It will be interesting to see how Seattle mixes Neal into the pass-rush plan, if at all. It wasn’t the right thing.” Neal isn’t fresh off breaking the single-season sack record for a defensive back, so teams likely won’t pay him the same attention they paid Adams. “The one thing is this, I’m not Jamal,” Neal said.
