State won’t demand Governor’s removal, says Law Minister
The HinduLaw Minister S. Regupathy on Saturday said that the Tamil Nadu government was acting in accordance with law, in the matter of constituting Vice-Chancellor search committees for universities, and would not demand the removal of Governor R.N. On the friction between the State government and the Governor, Mr. Regupathy said: “This is a democratic country where anyone can express their opinions. The State government would present its case before the court, he said, in response to a query on the Governor’s contention that the panels formed without the University Grants Commission Chairman’s nominee were bound to be quashed by the court. On the funeral procession of S.A. Basha, the mastermind of the 1998 serial bombings in Coimbatore, and BJP State president K. Annamalai’s criticism of it, Mr. Regupathy said the government cannot prevent people from attending an individual’s funeral.
