Kartarpur corridor: PM Modi to flag-off first batch of pilgrims amid tight security
India TodayThousands of Sikh pilgrims will undertake the journey from Dera Baba Nanak in India to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan for the first time on Saturday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 4.5 kilometre-long Kartarpur Corridor. The corridor connects Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India's Punjab with Darbar Sahib -- also called Kartarpur Sahib -- the last resting place of Guru Nanak Dev, in Narowal district in Pakistan. According to sources, the prime minister will also spend time with pilgrims and eat lunch with them at the religious kitchen of Dera Baba Nanak Gurudwara First batch of pilgrims First batch of 500 pilgrims includes several dignitaries like former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Akal Takht jathedar Harpreet Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, former CM Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Meanwhile, the five-day festival on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev began in Dera Baba Nanak and Sultanpur Lodhi on Friday and will conclude on November 12.
