NGT directs TWAD Board to submit plan to tackle water contamination in Tambaram Corporation

The Hindu

The Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal has directed the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board to submit a comprehensive plan to tackle the ongoing water contamination issues in the Tambaram Corporation. A report submitted by the TWAD Board in the matter showed that an inspection was carried out in the affected areas and water samples collected from sumps supplying water to the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation ward 13 and Pallavaram Cantonment Board ward 6. The results showed no evidence of harmful microorganisms or sewage contamination, indicating that the water did not contain any harmful pathogens, the TWAD Board stated. Directing the TWAD Board to present a detailed plan, including funding and timelines, for the construction of the sewerage system and resolve the issue, the Bench scheduled the next hearing for April 8.
