Delhi High Court Adjourns Mehbooba Mufti's Plea Challenging Vires Of PMLA To August 13
Live LawThe Delhi High Court has adjourned to August 13 hearing in the plea filed by Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti challenging vires of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. A division bench comprising of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh adjourned the matter on the request of Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta. Earlier, the Court had refused to grant a stay on summons by the Enforcement Directorate issued to Mehbooba Mufti on a case against her under S.50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Mufti had challenged the vires of Section 50, and incidental provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 for being "unfairly discriminatory, bereft of safeguards, and violative of Article 20 of the Constitution" and has cited various judgments laid down by the Supreme Court in different cases.
