Deccan Chronicle

Hyderabad: Vibrant hues of kites in the sky and colourfully made rangolis in front of every household, typify the joyousness that the harvest festival Sankranti brings along. Despite the threat of Covid-19 and its protocol being in place, music and loud shrieks and shouts were found on most terraces as people enjoyed flying kites and their competitions with neighbors. Dindayal Singh Loda from Karvan said “this Sankranti, we have witnessed more kites and a lot of families are participating.” Areas like Chappal Bazar, Kabutar Khana, parts of Begum Bazar are popular for flying kites in the night, thanks to most residents' halogen lamps on their terraces. According to K. Prabaker, a resident of Kabutar Khana “This practice started more than two decades ago.
