3 damaged idols unearthed at temple in UP's Sambhal that reopened after 46 years

Three idols of around four to six inches have been found during the digging of a well near the Bhasma Shankar temple in UP's Sambhal, which was reopened on December 13 after 46 years, officials said on Monday. #WATCH | Uttar Pradesh: Three idols recovered from the well near Shiv-Hanuman Temple in Sambhal that was reopened on December 14, reportedly for the first time after 1978. pic.twitter.com/lAF8L0iG6Y — ANI December 16, 2024 The well is situated about 10 metres from the Bhasma Shankar temple which houses a Lord Hanuman idol and a shivling. The temple, locked since 1978 following communal riots that prompted the displacement of several Hindu families living in the area, was reopened after authorities "stumbled" across it during an anti-encroachment drive in Sambhal. Following the discovery of the idols and the well at the temple, the Sambhal administration has also written to the Archaeological Survey of India to carry out carbon dating of the shrine.
