DMK fields V.C. Chandhirakumar as candidate for Erode (East) bypoll
The HinduThe ruling DMK on Saturday announced V.C. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai, in a statement on Friday, said that the 2026 Assembly elections in the State were just 10 months away and based on the request of Mr. Stalin, who heads the INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu, it was unanimously decided by the All India Congress Committee and the TNCC that the DMK would field its candidate for the bypoll. In a statement, Mr. Palaniswami recalled that apart from “liberal distribution” of freebies, the previous byelection saw the DMK “intimidating” innocent people. In a statement, Mr. Velu said that Mr. Palaniswami had “sacrificed” his party to escape the humiliation awaiting him in the Erode East byelection. “He lost 10 byelections since 2017, and the AIADMK decided to boycott this bypoll to avoid its 11th defeat,” Mr. Velu said.
