World Chess Championship 2025: Thipsay predicts a Gukesh win with rounds to spare - Here’s why
The HinduA win in sport can sometimes be more than just a win. Take, for instance, the one D. Gukesh scored against Ding Liren in the third game of the World Chess Championship in Singapore on Wednesday. For someone as inexperienced as Gukesh – the boy is just 18 – the defeat in the opening game must have been a bit unsettling, especially as he began as the firm favourite in just about everyone’s book, including Ding’s. He cannot afford another game where he lags behind Gukesh by an hour in terms of time; nor can he afford to be so unsure in the opening, where his opponent seemed entirely at home. “I don’t think he was giving the right signals, especially after winning with black pieces in the first game.” Thipsay believes Gukesh may not even need all 14 games to clinch the title.
