The King meets Chief Rabbi to discuss ‘horrors’ of terrorism in Israel
The TelegraphHis meeting with the Chief Rabbi came after he condemned the “barbaric acts of terrorism” following a telephone conversation with Yitzhak Herzog, the president of Israel, and King Abdullah of Jordan. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “His Majesty is appalled by and condemns the barbaric acts of terrorism in Israel.” The spokesman said the monarch, 74, who made a historic first visit to Israel and the West Bank in 2020, was “extremely concerned” about the conflict and had asked to be kept abreast of developments. Mr Herzog thanked the sovereign for his support for the people of Israel and described the call on Wednesday as a comforting and important statement for the entire Jewish people. The King’s show of support for the Jewish community also came as the Prime Minister announced £3 million to protect Jewish schools, synagogues and community buildings in the UK in response to rising anti-Semitism following the attacks.
