Centre releases Rs 8873 crore disaster fund for states to battle Covid crisis, take containment steps
India TodayCentre has released the first instalment of Rs 8,873.6 crore for State Disaster Response Fund in advance for the states to battle the Covid-19 crisis and take containment measures. Centre has released the first instalment of the SDRF funds to states in advance instead of the usual June disbursement. The first instalment of SDRF is usually released in June as per the recommendations of the Finance Commission, however, with the states battling a massive crisis over the Covid-19 spread, the amount has also been released without waiting for the procedural utilisation certificate. The SDRF funds can be used by the states for various measures related to containment of Covid-19, including meeting the cost of oxygen generation and storage plants in hospitals, ventilators, air purifiers, strengthening ambulance services, Covid-19 hospitals, Covid Care Centres, consumables, thermal scanners, personal protective equipment, testing laboratories, testing kits, containment zone, etc.
