Parandur project: T.N. govt. providing finishing touches to compensation package
The HinduThe Tamil Nadu government is finalising a compensation package for the people who will be affected by the proposed second airport project for Chennai at Parandur in Kancheepuram district. As pointed out by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on various occasions, the government’s idea is to provide a compensation to the project-affected people. In this regard, the government is working out the compensation in such a manner that the eventual quantum would be more than what the compensation package had envisaged under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. According to the law, one of the components of the package is to multiply the market value by a factor of one in case of urban areas, and by one to two for rural areas depending on the distance of the project site from urban areas.
