At 43 orders every minute, biryani is the most sought after dish on Swiggy

New Delhi: No surprises there but Indians continue to remain hooked to their traditional biryanis even as multi-cuisine options abound in the country. Online food delivery start-up Swiggy says the rice preparation is the most ordered dish on its platform, with the ordering rate standing at 43 per minute. It is, however, the fast-food chains, Subway, Dominos Pizza, McDonald’s and Burger King that have clocked the highest number of orders in five years. Coffee is India’s favourite hot beverage, a country that also loves its add-ons and ‘Extra sauce, please’ is the most common instruction restaurants receive. Most Indians ask Swiggy to deliver food to ‘Home’ followed by ‘Work.’ Vegetarianism seems to be in vogue, with ‘pure veg’ being the most popular filter on the app and most cities notching up twice the number of vegetarian orders as compared to non-vegetarian ones.
