Work on elevated corridor to commence this year, says Union Minister
The HinduThe Centre is planning to commence work on an elevated corridor connecting Indira Gandhi Square and Rajiv Gandhi Square after finalisation of detailed project report and cost approval this year, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said. In reply to a letter written by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy seeking ₹1,000 crore for establishing an elevated corridor connecting the two junctions and taking up other road expansion works, Mr. Gadkari said the DPR for the flyover would be completed by April 30. Acknowledging the Union Territory’s demand for the elevated corridor as a measure to de-congest the two junctions, the Union Minister in his letter to the Chief Minister a few days ago, said: “I have got the matter examined and would like to inform you that traffic congestion at Rajiv Gandhi Square and Indira Gandhi Square requires appropriate solutions.” “After finalisation of the DPR, the cost estimate for civil work will be promptly taken up for approval, with the objective of commencing the project on the ground well during 2025-26,” the Minister said. It will have connecting arms extending to Tindivanam and Saram areas at Rajiv Gandhi signal and similar bridges towards Villupuram and Nellithope market at the Indira Gandhi square.
