Spotify cuts 200 jobs in its podcast division but promises new original series incoming
India TodaySpotify has announced plans to revamp its Podcast division by making structural changes, which includes cutting 200 jobs -- roughly 2 per cent of Spotify's global workforce. In a blog post, Sahar Elhabashi, VP and head of Spotify's podcast business, suggests that podcast listeners continue to grow and the company also enjoys a stable position on the market. In the last decade, the popularity of podcasts across platforms has increased significantly, and today there are many creators known for their dedicated series across health, tech and true crime genres. Elhabashi posts state that the company would be combining Parcast and Gimlet -- two high-profile podcasting studios it acquired in 2019 into a renewed Spotify Studios operation to produce originals, such as Stolen, The Journal, Science Vs, Heavyweight, Serial Killers, and Conspiracy Theories.
