NASA prepares for second attempt at launching Artemis 1 moon rocket after problems halted first launch

Ground teams at Kennedy Space Center are preparing for a second launch attempt of NASA's towering, next-generation moon rocket after engineering problems foiled its initial debut flight on August 29. Key points: There is a 70 per cent chance of favourable conditions during the two-hour launch window If the countdown clock is forced to stop a second time, the next launch date will be September 5 The unmanned rocket will be carrying a simulated crew of three astronauts The 32-storey tall Artemis 1 rocket is scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 2:17pm EDT. Two other key issues on the rocket itself – a faulty engine temperature sensor and some cracks in insulation foam – have been resolved to NASA's satisfaction, Artemis mission manager Mike Sarafin said. The Artemis 1 mission will mark the first flight for both the Space Launch System rocket and the unmanned Orion capsule.
