It has topped the world rankings produced by Times Higher Education for the past eight years, and when it was displaced by Imperial College London this year from the top of the QS World University Rankings, it caused a ripple through Oxford's quads. The latest results under the Teaching Excellence Framework returned a triple gold award last year, covering an overall rating, student experience and student outcomes - an achievement that was beyond most Russell Group universities. Admissions, teaching and student support Last year saw the introduction of the Astrophoria foundation year for state school students with significant academic potential who have experienced personal disadvantage or disruption to their education. Further support with the transition to university is provided to around 200 offer holders from disadvantaged backgrounds through the Opportunity Oxford bridging programme, which consists of an online course in the summer before A-level results are published and then a two-week residential ahead of term starting for those whose places are confirmed, to give an insight into what life as an Oxford student is like.
