Protests in Tamil Nadu over non-release of Cauvery water by Karnataka government
India TodayWorkers of the Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India on Tuesday held a 'rail roko' movement in protest against the Karnataka government's decision to not release the Cauvery River water for Tamil Nadu. Earlier, the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee had recommended the Karnataka government release 1 Thousand Million Cubic Feets of water to Tamil Nadu from July 12, 2024 to July 31, 2024. "This all-party meeting strongly condemns the Karnataka government for refusing to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. We urge CWRC to order the Karnataka government to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu as per the Supreme Court order and CWMA order," Stalin said. Hence, Karnataka declining to release water according to the CWRC directive is a betrayal of Tamil Nadu's farmers," Stalin said, adding, "The state will never accept it."
