In failing to draft a running back, the Dolphins again ignore their biggest need

Maybe Myles Gaskin’s transformation into the Dolphins’ featured running back might’ve been just enough to convince general manager Chris Grier and coach Brian Flores that they didn’t need to aggressively target a tailback in the NFL Draft. However, one could argue a running back suddenly became a more glaring need — especially after the Dolphins passed on adding one last year, as Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jonathan Taylor, J.K. Dobbins, D’Andre Swift, Cam Akers and Zack Moss were available when they were picking. “At the end of the day, you set your board with the best players available and you want to make sure that you’re adding good players to your roster.” Gaskin finished last season as one of the Dolphins’ most improved players after a disappointing rookie season in 2019. Jaret Patterson, Buffalo : “Patterson doesn’t have ideal size, power or speed of an early-down back or the pass-catching or blocking skills of a third-down back, but he runs with quick feet and boundless energy.
