The future of chess is in India: Aronian

Hindustan Times

It’s been hard to decipher United States’ chess Olympiad campaign so far. “So far, we are slowly getting into shape,” said world No 6 Aronian, who was held by Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Yakubboev on Monday. India’s youngsters – D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa and Nihal Sarin in particular – have been earmarked as future top-10 players by many luminaries of the chess world. ‘Carlsen should not undermine the world championship title’ In response to Magnus Carlsen’s decision to not defend his world championship title next year, Aronian said: “I think the format is fine. If he is going to undermine the world championship title, it would be a negative for the world of chess.” How does Aronian ensure that he stays fresh and motivated for the challenges ahead?
