FBI didn't warn about attack on US Capitol due to concerns over free speech: Report
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation had information about a possible violent attack on the Capitol by Donald Trump's supporters on January 6, but it did not issue a formal intelligence bulletin because it was worried that this may trigger concerns over free speech, a report has claimed. The report said though FBI did share some threat intelligence with local law enforcement agencies, it did not issue a formal comprehensive intelligence bulletin on the matter. "For every major event in Washington DC, and even sporting events like the World Series, they produce a Special Event Bulletin," a former FBI analyst was quoted as saying by NBC News. "A second former FBI official said it didn't happen this time because of concerns that the material FBI analysts were examining on social media amounted to protected free speech," the report said.
