Family mourns death of Queensland toddler Ruby Edwards who died with COVID-19

Brisbane parents Krystal and Steven Edwards say they are trying to be strong but are consumed by grief after the unexpected death of their 23-month-old daughter Ruby who contracted COVID-19. Ruby Edwards passed away after contracting COVID-19 which then caused a very rare neurological condition. He said when Ruby contracted COVID it triggered Acute Hemorrhagic Leukoencephalitis, a very rare neurological condition that was caused by inflammation in Ruby's brain and spinal cord. "This triggered a rare auto-immune condition, where her immune system, while trying to fight the virus, also attacked her brain, affecting her vital functions," Mr Edwards said in a social media post.
