New York TimesThe New York Mets will retire former captain David Wright’s No. Wright, who spent his entire 14-year career with the Mets, will be honored before the team’s July 19 game against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field, the source said. Wright will become the 10th player to have his jersey retired by the Mets and the 35th to enter the club’s Hall of Fame. It ended a career that saw Wright become a beloved player in Mets history and earn two Silver Slugger awards, two Gold Gloves and seven All-Star selections as a reliable member of the club’s lineup and defense. Wright will join Willie Mays, Tom Seaver, Darryl Strawberry, Gil Hodges, Mike Piazza, Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Jerry Koosman, Keith Hernandez and Dwight Gooden in having his number retired by the Mets.
