Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi: Cyclic incidents of violence continue in Manipur, armed forces trying to bring peace
The HinduSynergised efforts by security forces and proactive government initiatives have brought the prevailing situation in Manipur under control, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Monday. Mr. Dwivedi made the comment as part of Annual Press conference at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, where he apprised the media about security issues in northern borders. “In Manipur, cyclic incidents of violence are continuing but security forces are working to bring in peace. Recently, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in a security review meeting where he suggested that the State police use legal options such as the National Security Act, 1980, which provides detention for a year without trial, against miscreants and troublemakers Ethnic violence erupted in the State on May 3, 2023, more than 250 people have been killed.
