Left opposing reservations for first time: Jaitley pitches for upper caste quota
India TodayHitting back at opposition posed by the Left to the quota for unreserved category, Arun Jaitley today in Parliament said, "This is the first time in history when the Left is opposing benefits for the poor in society." As he spoke in favour of a 10 per cent quota for the economically backward among upper castes, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that this quota will provide economic justice to all Indians. The government made it clear in Lok Sabha that existing quotas will not be disturbed for the one for economically backward persons among upper castes. The Lok Sabha has begun the debate on a 10 percent quota for economically backward upper castes. The bill seeks 10 per cent reservation for economically backward upper castes that are currently not covered under reservation in government jobs.
