Dochterman: Iowa football’s character, consistency on display again in Music City Bowl win
New York TimesNASHVILLE, Tenn. — In a season filled to the brim with adversity and ending with a horrific tragedy, Iowa’s football program once again showed why it perseveres and succeeds in the toughest of moments. The Hawkeyes beat Kentucky 21-0 at the Music City Bowl with a formula that has worked most of the year: They played turnover-free, their defense turned opponents’ mistakes into points, and their special teams provided the adhesive between the other units. Over the last four years, a lot of guys in that locker room have worked their butts off, and I think they see kind of those accomplishments and the success precede that.” Jack Campbell, center, finished his Iowa career with a Music City Bowl win Saturday. Perhaps nobody embodies Iowa’s resilience quite like Campbell, a unanimous first-team All-American, the Butkus Award winner and the recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy as the sport’s top academic athlete. “When you have guys like we’ve got, that’s the best part of the day.” Iowa finished its season 8-5 and likely unranked.
