Chellie Pingree said Wednesday. “The SSA is simply too important, and affects the lives of too many people, for it to be led by someone who is willing to throw an entire state into turmoil, all because its Governor refused to be intimidated by the actions of a President who is acting illegally.” Rep. Angus King previously said the episode “left many unanswered questions about the Social Security Administration’s motivations,” but neither he nor other members of the Maine congressional delegation responded to requests for comment on Wednesday. Rep. Richard Neal, the top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, said in a statement that Dudek “admitted to canceling contracts out of pettiness” and is running Social Security into the ground at the direction of Trump and Elon Musk, the senior White House adviser in charge of downsizing federal agencies.
