104 bird species recorded in this year’s Campus Bird Count on and around Mangalore University campus

In all, 104 bird species were recorded on and around Mangalore University campus during the Campus Bird Count – 2025. The annual bird count, the 10th one, was conducted for four days from February 14, under the auspices of the Department of Applied Zoology and Natural History Association, at the university. A few Western Ghats endemic birds like flame-throated bulbul and the grey-headed bulbul which is near threatened, nocturnal species included the barn owl, the wood owl, the Sri Lankan frogmouth, and the Indian nightjar were spotted. The university has been participating in the CBC, a sub-event of ‘Great Backyard Bird Count’ organised by Bird Count India, for nine years.
