Sheldon Whitehouse understands why some of his fellow Dems voted to avert shutdown
PoliticoWhitehouse told host Martha Raddatz that the OMB would have gotten extra power to restructure the government if there were a shutdown: “There’s a guy over at the Office of Management and Budget named Russell Vought. He’s got a little sidekick over there named Mark Paoletta.” He elaborated on his concerns: “These are very extreme people and OMB gets wild powers during a shutdown. “I think Democrats need to demonstrate to the American people at every opportunity that we have,” he said on “Fox News Sunday,” “and there are rare opportunities in the minority, how we would govern if we were given power.” He added: “Voting for a bill that further empowers Trump to tank the economy and threaten our allies and take away benefits from veterans is not a good way of doing that. “My view is that as Democrats, we need to stop the intramural quarreling about who voted what way and get back to work saving our democracy,” he told Raddatz.
