The Daily Mail's Jeff Powell has been recognised in the New Year's Honours list for his stellar work as a sports writer. Powell's unrivalled 57-year career with the Mail covering 13 World Cups and countless world title boxing fights saw him land an MBE for services to journalism and sport. Legendary sportswriter Jeff Powell celebrates his MBE alongside his wife Maria England's World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore was a close friend of Powell, who wrote the inscription that features on his statue outside Wembley 'He was at the scene of both the Heysel and Hillsborough disasters, reporting for the Daily Mail, and in the aftermath led the campaign to replace standing terraces with all-seater stadia. England rugby union defence coach Kevin Sinfield, 43, picked up a CBE alongside his former Leeds Rhinos rugby league team-mate Rob Burrow, 41, for services to motor neurone disease awareness.
