The NT coroner examined the territory's 'domestic violence epidemic' in a series of inquests. Watch a summary of the evidence
ABCWhen Northern Territory Coroner Elisabeth Armitage opened an inquiry into the territory's domestic, family, and sexual violence system in June this year, it was clear she already knew the situation was dire. Her series of coronial inquests examined the deaths of four of the 76 Aboriginal women killed by their partners in the NT since the year 2000 — Kumanjayi Haywood, Ngeygo Ragurrk, Miss Yunupiŋu and Kumarn Rubuntja. Elisabeth Armitage has closed a months-long inquiry into the deaths of four Aboriginal women at the hands of their partners. "We never imagined that we would be able to delve as deeply as we have into so many different areas that are involved and affected by the domestic violence epidemic that we're living in at the moment," Judge Armitage said.
