SC Directs Centre To Notify Wetland Rules By June 30 [Read Order]

The Supreme Court bench of justices Madan B.Lokur and Prafulla C Pant, on Friday, directed the Centre to notify the Wetlands Rules, 2016 on or before June 30, 2017. “There has to be some finality to the publication of the Rules, as the matter has been pending with the Centre for long”, the bench observed.A wetland is land covered by water. On Friday, the Supreme Court bench directed the Centre to give specific details about the steps taken to preserve these 26 sites. The bench, therefore, directed the application of the principles of Rule 4 of the Wetlands Rules, 2010 to the 2, 01, 503 wetlands in the country, that have been mapped by the Centre.
