Srinagar repolling: Only 2% voter turnout, Farooq Abdullah in fray

Srinagar: Only 2% turnout was witnessed in re-polling in 38 polling stations in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, officials said. Re-polling had been ordered at these polling stations by the Election Commission following large scale violence during Sunday’s polls for the prestigious seat. Eight people were killed in firing by security forces as unprecedented election-day violence marred the bypoll for Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.Only 7.14% of the 12.61 lakh electorate cast their votes during the polling on Sunday amid large-scale protests and violence around polling stations at dozens of places across the constituency. Nine candidates, including National Conference stalwart Farooq Abdullah and ruling Peoples Democratic Party’s Nazir Ahmad Khan are in the fray.
