
IISER to organise science lectures
The HinduThe Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram, in association with Indian National Young Academy of Science, New Delhi, is organising a public outreach event at the Planetarium Hall in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. The event will feature three science lectures under the theme ‘The rise of X-rays: A story of a century and beyond’. Professor Joy Mitra from the School of Physics, IISER Thiruvananthapuram will present a talk titled ‘On the history of X-ray discovery and its impact on mankind.’ Dr. Vinayak Kamble, also from School of Physics, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, will discuss ‘The significance of X-rays in materials sciences: From diffraction to spectroscopy’, and Dr. Samir Mandal from the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram, will speak on the ‘The Significance of X-rays as probes in Astronomy.’ The talks are open to the general public, and there is no entry or registration fee.
