Highgate Hill residents attempt to block 47-unit apartment development

ABC

Urban planners say inner-city apartments are just what Brisbane needs but local home owners say a development plan for their neighbourhood is "inappropriate". Ben Hockley is among Highgate Hill residents trying to block the construction of an "egregious" 47-unit development on Westbourne Street. "Highgate Hill is an inner-city neighbourhood and it's amazing the inner city has remained such low density for as long as it has," Dr Pojani said. Highgate Hill home owner Nick Macmillan said he believed the medium-density proposal was "inappropriate" for the neighbourhood. "While increasing density in Highgate Hill is important, in a housing crisis we should not be demolishing affordable housing to build luxury apartments," Cr Massey said.
