Controversial day in Indian cricket: What happened after Virat Kohli's explosive statements - 10 points
India TodayThere was very little talk about India’s tour of South Africa as Virat Kohli sat down to take questions in the customary pre-departure press conference ahead of the much-anticipated tour. One of the most powerful personalities in Indian cricket, Virat Kohli was dominating headlines over the last few days as rumours of rift between him and limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma were doing rounds. The timing of his decision to quit T20I captaincy and the way he was removed as ODI captain gave rise to plenty of speculation and rumour that he will not play the ODI series in South Africa created a stir with the likes of Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur and former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin chipping in with their take on the speculation. Kohli said he was only informed by the BCCI chief selector, Chetan Sharma that he was removed as ODI captain 90 minutes before the announcement was made official. Meanwhile, Kohli also said he made it clear to the selectors in September that he wanted to continue as ODI and T20I captain but he would be happy to accept any decision that the “BCCI office-bearers or the selectors” take about him continuing as skipper in the other two formats.
