ABC

A man has died after falling off a boat into the Murray River near Moama in New South Wales. The man, 51, fell overboard when the boat suddenly stopped to help a fallen water skier it was towing. Murray River a blackspot A 10-year report into drowning deaths released last year by Royal Lifesaving Australia identified the Murray River as the deadliest river nationally between 2011-12 and 2021-22, with 48 deaths over the decade. Amy Peden, a senior research fellow with the University of New South Wales and Royal Lifesaving Australia, said the number of deaths reflected the sheer length and size of the Murray River, which spanned three states, combined with a broad range of activities that occur on it.
