From undocking to splashdown: Sunita Williams's long journey to come home

Nasa astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore safely returned to Earth aboard SpaceX's Dragon capsule on Tuesday, successfully splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida early Wednesday morning. On Tuesday morning, Wilmore and Williams, along with two other astronauts, strapped into their Crew Dragon spacecraft and undocked from the International Space Station at 10.35 am for a 17-hour journey back to Earth. The four-person crew, part of Nasa's Crew-9 astronaut rotation mission, re-entered Earth's atmosphere around 3.15 am at extremely high speeds. The capsule reduced its orbital speed from approximately 17,000 miles per hour to a gentle 17 miles per hour at splashdown, which occurred about 50 miles off Florida's Gulf Coast, under clear skies.
