DCC steps in following reluctance of two standing committee chiefs to step down in compliance with intra-party understanding

Given the reluctance of two of its standing committee chairpersons in the Thrikkakara municipality to step down and make way for their replacements based on a previously agreed intra-party understanding, the Ernakulam District Congress Committee has stepped in and asked them to fall in line. Health standing committee chairperson Unni Kakkanad and welfare standing committee chairperson Suneera Feroz have been asked to comply with the directive at a recent Congress parliamentary party meeting convened by DCC president Mohammed Shiyas. Though development standing committee chairperson Smitha Sunny had also been asked to make way for another Independent councillor, Omana Sabu, who supported the UDF, that plan stands dropped now. This comes in the wake of a recent development in which Congress councillor and former municipal chairperson Ajitha Thankappan was disqualified after reportedly failing to attend the meetings of the education standing committee for three consecutive months.
