A political spat broke out over language in Maharashtra this week, triggered by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Suresh Bhaiya Ji Joshi’s statements claiming that “Marathi is not the language of Mumbai”, and that those coming to Maharashtra’s capital city “do not have to learn or understand Marathi”.
