Southampton mailbag: More takeover talk, Danny Ings’ contract stalemate, and summer transfer plans

The Athletic asked for your Southampton questions — and you didn’t let us down. Unsurprisingly, a lot of you wanted to know the latest on the takeover saga, whether Danny Ings’ future is still on the south coast, Jannik Vestergaard’s contract situation, and whether the club would continue to search for new full-back options in the summer transfer window. An offer from Southampton, which would see Ings become the club’s highest-paid player, remains on the table and is yet to be signed. They can’t allow themselves to get into a situation where the summer transfer window is in its final days and Ings leaves, which would give them very little time to find a new striker. As long as Ings’ contract remains unsigned, there is going to be an element of flux with the summer transfer window creeping into view.
