
Bhatti: Ready to meet 17,000-MW power demand
Deccan ChronicleHyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday said no one in the entire state felt any trouble when the state witnessed this season's peak power demand of around 16,000 MW on February 10. He also claimed that the state power sector made elaborate summer prepared plans to meet even 17,000 MW of power demand daily in the coming months. Giving a presentation on the scenario of the power sector in the state, Bhatti said the Central Electricity Commission had made an expectation that the power demand would grow at a rate of 8 per cent every year till 2030, to reach the power demand of 24,215 MW of power demand and thereafter at a rate of 5.6 per cent till 2035 to reach 31,809 MW of power demand in the state. Listing out the reasons for increased power demand in the state, Bhatti said the fast emergence of Hyderabad as a hub for data centres for major global IT giants, which guzzle up more power, besides the Future City initiative, Musi Riverfront Development which is expected for more economic activity and Regional Ring Road act as major growth drivers for the increased power demand in the state.
