Karnataka to file interim application in SC for early hearing of Palace Grounds ownership case
The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided to file an interim application before the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing of the validity of the 1996 Act that vested the Bangalore Palace with the State government. Demolition notice Briefing reporters, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said that the government issued a notice on January 9, 2025, to demolish illegal constructions in the Bangalore Palace grounds within 15 days. In December 2024, the Supreme Court directed the State government and BBMP to issue transferable development rights to Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar’s legal heir for the land of Bengaluru Palace ground, which was sought to be acquired for the widening of Ballari and Jayamahal roads. On December 10, 2024, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the legal heirs of the Mysore Maharaja and directed the authorities to issue TDRs at the present market value within six weeks.
